Mittineague Elementary School Fundraiser in June, 2008 Pic 01

Mittineague Elementary School in West Springfield, MA held its annual Family Picnic Celebration on June 4th. In conjunction with the picnic, the school held a “Soupy for Loopy” fundraiser in honor of Laura Sypek, a former Mittineague School student. Staff members baked special cookies to sell (including Laura’s favorite peanut butter cookies with colored sugar sprinkles) and sold lemonade and SOUPY FOR LOOPY awareness bracelets. Their fundraising efforts concluded on Friday, June 6th, with a “PURPLE” spirit day. All students were encouraged to wear purple, Laura Sypek’s favorite color, and donate 25 cents to the foundation, raising a total of nearly $600 to benefit Soupy for Loopy Foundation. Kudos to Kim Lyons for spearheading this idea and heartwarming thanks to Principal Paul Heath, staff, students and parents who made this first “Soupy for Loopy” fundraiser a HUGE success. You’re the best!!!

Despite her age, Laura worked actively to raise money for cancer research.
